Hello!

I’m Abeera (she/her), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #154431) in Los Angeles, CA. I am the therapist behind Prioritize You Therapy.

The Full Story

My interest in this field began during my time as a Gender Studies student, where I developed a deep appreciation for the unique experiences each person carries. We all move through life differently due to our circumstances, culture, and personality, and we each deserve a safe, supportive space with a professional who truly sees and respects that individuality.

I was born in Pakistan and moved to California at a young age, an experience that shaped much of how I see and move through the world. As a South Asian cisgender woman and the eldest daughter in my family, I understand the responsibilities and pressures that can come with cultural expectations—especially when trying to balance the values of a collectivistic upbringing with the individualistic norms of Western society. These lived experiences inform the way I connect with clients. I see culture as a vital part of one’s mental health journey and always hold space for its impact in the therapeutic process.

My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming, and I’m deeply committed to creating a safe, supportive space for individuals of all gender identities and sexual orientations. A significant portion of my caseload includes LGBTQIA+ clients, and I consider it a privilege to support them in navigating the unique challenges and strengths that come with their lived experiences.

While in graduate school, I had the privilege of working with diverse clients as a therapist trainee at a community mental health center and continued that work as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist in a private practice. Across both settings, I’ve had the opportunity to work with individuals, couples, and families from a wide range of ages, genders, races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

As mentioned above, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #154431). I earned my M.A. in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University. Before that, I completed my B.A. in Gender Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. In addition to my clinical work, I serve as an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology, where I teach Multicultural Counseling. I am also the Secretary of Childhood Matters, a non-profit organization based in Ventura County focused on the mental wellbeing of children and families.
